Toledo TONI&GUY students get in the groove styling hair for local dance academy
The phrase “lots of glitter” set the stage for the TONI&GUY Hairdressing Academy students’ mission last month.
Armed
with hairspray, curling irons and loads of bobby pins, students from
TONI&GUY set out June 18 to create rock n’ roll-themed hairstyles. The
glitz and glitter accented the Dance FX Academy’s annual showcase, “Rockin’ FX”, where the hair was as big as the split leaps gracing the
stage of the Maumee High School auditorium.
“I love any chance
we get for our students to participate in the Toledo community. It gives
them a chance to use their talents to benefit others, which is all part
of the Spotlight Culture we so strongly believe in at TONI&GUY,”
Recruiting Director Kristin Reichardt said. “We have worked with Dance
FX in the past, and it’s so fabulous to see students from such different
artistic disciplines work together. Also, this gives our students
experience in stage hair and make up work, a career path many of them
want to explore.”
Dance FX Academy Owner Michelle Thayer said
the theme gave the students the opportunity to dance outside their
comfort zone, giving them a challenge.
“Hair and make-up set the
tone for each dance,” Thayer said. “Using creative styles make it more
enjoyable for the audience to view. As dancers, it is the final touches
that make the dance spectacular.”
TONI&GUY’s participation
in styling hair and make up for the 2011 Dance FX “Rockin’ FX” Showcase
continues a more than 18-month year partnership between the
organizations. Dancers and instructors from Dance FX participated in
the 2010 TONI&GUY Hairdressing Academy Student Soiree “Somnia” in
October.
The educators and staff of TONI&GUY and Dance FX believe that artistic expression helps people to become well-rounded.
“It
creates an atmosphere where everything makes sense even in everyday
life,” Thayer said. “We are able to reach past ourselves if we allow
it.”
